Compassionate Penarth
About us
Compassionate Penarth is a group of local people and organisations who want the residents of Penarth and the surrounding areas to know they are not alone at some of the most difficult times in their lives.
To support people to be more comfortable talking about frailty, terminal illness, end of life care, death, dying, and bereavement. When people feel more comfortable talking about these significant experiences, they are more able to get the support they need and are better equipped to support others.

What we do: We focus on three phases of life
Living with or caring for someone with a terminal illness – It is a time to think about what matters most. Whether that is thinking about what medical care we would like and where would like to be treated, or sharing creative ideas about how we’d like our lives to be celebrated, or maybe it is a concern about what will happen to our pets. Talking about the things that matters most can give us peace of mind and help those we leave behind
Dying and death – A terminal diagnosis can be a shock to the person with the illness and for those who care for them. Talking to others can help us process what we are going through. There may be lots of questions about what is ahead; some questions we are afraid to ask, some we don’t know who to ask
Bereavement and grief – When someone we know dies, we may experience a wide range of emotions, there is no one way to grieve, there is no timetable. Learning to live with the loss of a loved one can feel overwhelming . It may be that you are working your way through your own grief or wanting to support a friend or family member. It is important to know, you are not alone, there is support in the local community.

How we do it
We are supporting the communities in Penarth and surrounding areas by:
- Providing online signposting to resources, advice and information
- Providing talks to community groups and organisations which raise awareness of support available and how we can be better at supporting each other.
- Holding events to enable people to learn, share and discuss these important subjects which are too often considered a taboo
